Tom Hakemi is experienced in advising individuals, public and private companies, and professional organizations in a broad range of commercial civil litigation matters and government investigations. He has represented clients before courts and regulatory agencies in Canada and in the United States, such as the British Columbia Securities Commission and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. He has represented clients in arbitrations before various tribunals, including the American Arbitration Association and the National Association of Securities Dealers. He advises clients before disputes materialize and throughout mediation, litigation and appeals.
He is admitted to practice in British Columbia and in New York. He has served as an adjunct professor of law and lectures at the University of British Columbia. He is Co-Chair of the Civil Litigation Section of the Canadian Bar Association British Columbia Branch. Prior to establishing Hakemi & Company, he practiced at firms such as Shearman & Sterling LLP in New York City and Lang Michener LLP in Vancouver.
